Check-up for the Llver

The liver has a variety of vital functions. When diseased, it does not cause pain. Symptoms do not always occur and are often non-specific, such as tiredness, fatigue or a feeling of pressure in the upper abdomen. Therefore, diseases of the liver are often detected late. On the other hand, many liver diseases can be treated well in their early stages or can be influenced very well by lifestyle changes. Early diagnosis is therefore very important.

Your attending physicians have advised you to have a liver check-up. The Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology is pleased to offer you this outpatient check-up.

Check-up for the liver

Fibroscan

The liver has a variety of vital functions. When diseased, it does not cause pain. Symptoms do not always occur and are often non-specific, such as tiredness, fatigue or a feeling of pressure in the upper abdomen. Therefore, diseases of the liver are often detected late.

On the other hand, many liver diseases can be treated well in their early stages or can be influenced very well by lifestyle changes. Early diagnosis is therefore very important.

Our attending physicians have advised you to have a liver check-up. We would like to offer you this check-up.

For this purpose, we will perform an examination with the Fibroscan®. This ultrasound-based procedure is completely painless and can be used to assess the extent of liver damage at an early stage. Chronic liver inflammation leads to an accumulation of connective tissue in the liver and, in the long term, to scarring of the organ (cirrhosis). The fibroscan measures the elasticity of the liver tissue. The data provide information on how far the scarring remodeling has progressed. Today, examination with the fibroscan in combination with determination of liver values in the blood can replace a liver puncture in many cases.
