  • Hepatobiliary research focus: role of the Nlrp3 inflammasome in the development and progression of metabolic and toxic liver diseases
  • Clinical translational research focus: Prognostic evaluation of biomarkers in the gut-liver axis in disease patterns of gastrointestinal intensive care medicine
  • Intestinal research focus: role of microbiome in innate immunity in liver and GI tract and cellular and molecular mechanisms of immune response in acute and chronic liver diseases

Clinical topics:

  • Sonography: Diagnostic and therapeutic examination of the liver and gastrointestinal tract, with special emphasis on characterization of hepatic masses
  • Internal intensive care: care of critically ill patients with hepato-gastrointestinal disease, especially liver failure, pancreatitis and sepsis
  • Endoscopy and endosonography: diagnosis and therapy of changes in the gastrointestinal tract, classification of mucosal and submucosal masses as well as changes in the pancreas
