Endoscopy and Ultrasound
The Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology, CCM/CVK, performs more than 13,000 endoscopic examinations and more than 10,000 ultrasound examinations annually, making it one of the largest endoscopy centres in Germany.
It offers the complete spectrum of endoscopic diagnostics and minimally invasive therapies at the highest level. Thanks to the close integration with highly specialised sonography, the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures can be designed to be even more targeted and gentle.

Expertise by Experience
As a maximum care centre, the Endoscopy Center offers the complete spectrum of endoscopic diagnostics and minimally invasive therapies at the highest level. High-resolution video endoscopes of the latest generation are used for this purpose.
In order to make the examination as comfortable as possible for you, it can be performed under anaesthesia with a short-acting sleeping pill (usually propofol). You will be monitored by specially trained staff. Patients for whom such anaesthesia is associated with increased risks due to additional diseases are cared for by the specialists of the Department of Anaesthesiology. The close cooperation with our highly specialised sonography department also offers the possibility of making your examination and treatment as gentle and targeted as possible.
In addition to carrying out scheduled examinations, a 24-hour service is maintained at both locations to provide qualified care for endoscopic emergencies at any time.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a harmless and quickly available method for diagnosing diseases of the abdominal cavity. The clinic has many years of experience in the use of both standard ultrasound diagnostics and specialised procedures such as contrast sonography. The clinic has technically sophisticated, state-of-the-art equipment at its disposal for the examinations. The main focus is on the examination of the organs of the abdominal cavity and the intestine, as well as the thyroid gland and vessels of the abdominal cavity. In addition, punctures of organs or other ultrasound-assisted procedures can be performed.
- Ultrasound examination of the abdomen and thyroid gland
- Intestinal sonography
- Vascular sonography
- Contrast sonography
- Sonographically assisted interventions (targeted and non-targeted organ punctures, placement of drains and relief of intracavitary fluid collections)
- Radiofrequency ablation of liver malignancies - an adjunct or alternative to surgical or chemotherapeutic measures to achieve tumour mass reduction and, in some cases, curation
- Biopsies of the liver - inpatient admission is usually required for such an intervention
Outpatient appointments can be made for diagnostic sonography or minor procedures such as punctures of the thyroid gland.
